TalkBeam for Schools & campuses

Push-to-talk for school staff, from arrival to dismissal

TalkBeam is a push-to-talk walkie-talkie app that connects the front office, administrators, custodians, transportation and campus security on staff channels, with all-call, SOS and a live staff map for arrival, dismissal and events.

Please note: TalkBeam is for day-to-day staff coordination. It isn’t a replacement for your emergency notification system, mass notification or 911.

CH 01The problem

Where school radios fall short

Arrival and dismissal, a field trip, a Friday night game: staff are spread out, and the radios are shared, dead or missing.

  1. Not enough radios

A handful of people get radios, and the rest of the staff is out of the loop.

    With TalkBeam

Staff use the phones they already carry, so everyone who needs the channel is on it.

    • Any headset, glasses or CarPlay
  2. Dismissal chaos

Bus lines, the car line and walkers all need coordinating at the same time.

    With TalkBeam

A dismissal channel for the people running it, plus an all-call for the whole staff.

    • Unlimited company channels
    • Priority talk & all-call
  3. Field trips and away games

The bus is out of radio range the moment it leaves the lot.

    With TalkBeam

TalkBeam runs over cellular data, so trip leaders stay on the channel, and the map shows staff who are sharing their location.

    • Unlimited company channels
    • Live team map
  4. Custodians alone after hours

Night custodians and maintenance staff work alone in empty buildings.

    With TalkBeam

Lone-worker check-ins and man-down detection alert a supervisor if someone stops answering.

    • Crash & man-down detectionEnterprise
  5. Weather at recess and practice

Heat and thunderstorms change recess, PE and athletics on short notice.

    With TalkBeam

Automated broadcasts read thunderstorm and heat alerts for your campus aloud to staff.

    • Automated safety broadcastsEnterprise
  6. Who said what?

When a parent asks what happened at pickup, nobody remembers the details.

    With TalkBeam

Every transmission becomes searchable, time-stamped text.

    • Searchable transcripts

CH 02A day on TalkBeam

Dismissal on a stormy afternoon

A school district runs staff channels on TalkBeam Enterprise. Its mass notification system stays in place for emergencies and parent messages.

Dismissal ran indoors without a single radio passed around, and the principal had a record of when each group was released.

Illustrative scenario. People, places and times are made up; the features are real.

CH 02 · DISMISSALTranscript
  1. TALKBEAM Automated broadcast

Thunderstorm at Lincoln Elementary. Lightning risk: get indoors or into a vehicle and stay off equipment until 30 minutes after the last thunder.

  2. PRINCIPAL All-call

All staff: indoor dismissal today. Walkers wait in the gym, car riders in the cafeteria.

  3. BUS DUTY

Buses 4 and 7 are here. Sending their riders out under the canopy.

  4. FRONT OFFICE

Early pickup for a second grader in Room 12. Please send to the office.

  5. CAR LINE

Car line is empty. Cafeteria is clear.

  6. PRINCIPAL

    Thanks, everyone. Nice work.

CH 03What you get

What school staff get on TalkBeam

Everything a two-way radio does, on the phone, headset or vehicle your people already have, plus the things a radio never could.

  • Unlimited company channels

A channel per crew, site, shift or job, and the people who need each one. Supervisors can sit on all of them.

  • Priority talk & all-call

Supervisors cut through the chatter mid-sentence, or reach every channel at once with one hold.

  • SOS with location

Hold SOS and the channels you choose get an alert with your location. Teammates tap On my way.

  • Live team map

See everyone who’s sharing their location on one map, and who’s talking right now.

  • Automated safety broadcasts Enterprise

Severe weather warnings, thunderstorms, earthquakes, air quality and extreme heat near your sites or crews, read aloud on your channels automatically.

  • Lone-worker check-ins Enterprise

People working alone get an “Are you OK?” check-in on your schedule. A missed check-in escalates to a supervisor.

  • Searchable transcripts

Every transmission becomes text with a time and a name, so anyone can scroll back or search what was said.

  • Single sign-on Enterprise

People sign in with their Okta, Microsoft or Google work account.

Features marked Enterprise are part of the Enterprise plan. TalkBeam isn’t an emergency service and doesn’t contact 911.

CH 06FAQ

Schools & campuses: questions, answered

Is TalkBeam an emergency notification system?

No. It’s for staff coordination. Keep your emergency notification, mass notification and 911 procedures; TalkBeam doesn’t replace them.

Can staff use their own phones?

Yes. Staff install TalkBeam on their iPhone (Android is coming soon on Google Play) and join with your company code, or sign in with single sign-on on Enterprise.

Is it for students?

No. TalkBeam company channels are for adult staff.

Should staff share student information on channels?

Keep it to what staff need in the moment, and follow your district’s student privacy rules. Transcripts are kept, so use room numbers or initials where you can.

Does it work on field trips and at away games?

Yes, wherever phones have cellular data. Trip leaders stay on the same channel as the front office.

What does it cost?

Teams is $8 per person per month, or $6 billed yearly, for 5 to 50 people. Enterprise is $15 per person per month billed yearly from 25 people, $13 from 100.
